Relay for Life – Team Jess. Cake Stall Fundraiser

For those who have not heard of Relay for Life, it is a cancer council initiative aimed at raising vital funds for research and cancer treatments. In 2007 my family started participating in the Relay following the sudden passing of my 27 year old cousin Jess to a very aggressive form of cervical cancer. The team alone has now raised over $200,000 for the Cancer Council which is an amazing achievement and a huge credit to my Aunty, Uncle, Cousin and all the friends and family who help out.

The team runs various fundraising events throughout the year leading up to the Relay with one of them being a cake stall at a local community centre. I do not often get to be involved in the events so it was great to be able to get down and help sell a few homemade cakes, biscuits and slices. There were various stalls, activities and entertainment happening on the day including a small animal farm for the kids. Well, and the adults. I enjoyed watching the animals so took a few photos while I was there. In four hours we managed to make over $600 which was wonderful. Later on in the year the team will be holding their annual ‘Hint of Pink’ dinner which is the main fundraiser but many sausage sizzles, market days and merchandise sales will all help make for another huge total next year.
