Investec Cup South Africa

Hockeyroos tour to South Africa. Investec Challenge, Cape Town 2013.
I have been meaning to post an update for over a week now but unfortunately the wireless connection here is not great. The team and I are enjoying a lovely stay in the Tsogo Sun Hotel in Cape Town where we have been treated to some beautiful food, friendly service but terrible Internet. It is the first thing we look for when arriving at a new hotel as we all know it is the one thing that allows us to stay connected to family and friends while we are away.
We have been in South Africa for over a week now and have really enjoyed the place so far. Table Mountain is visible everywhere you go and such a delight to look at. Some days it is covered with the famous ‘Table Cloth’ but magical nonetheless. Unfortunately Teneal Attard and I manage to score a room on the not so picturesque side of the hotel but we can always catch a glimpse of the view will visiting others.

Since arriving we have had a busy hockey schedule. We train each day, do a weights session on our rest days and have played 6 games so far including 3 practice matches and 3 as part of Investec Challenge. Last night was our third and final round game for the tournament against England. In our first game Messy (Claire Messent) played her 50th cap for Australia while Kirstin Johnson played her first. Two huge achievements!! Unfortunately Mess has since injured her shoulder and will not be taking any further part in the tournament. Our final milestone to be celebrated is Boycey’s (Fiona Boyce) 100th cap. This will be in the semi final if everything goes to plan.

I have been lucky enough to play 4 of the games so far. Wanting a positive start to the year I put in a lot of time training over the summer to get myself in the best shape for this tour. So far so good! As always it is such a privilege to be out there wearing the green and gold. It is the first tour with our new GK coach Mark Hickman, an ex Kookaburra, who has been coaching a club in Spain for some time now. To have a specialist coach accessible on tour is fantastic and means we are always learning and progressing, Mark will be a huge asset to our group.
So please keep your fingers crossed for us. We are really hoping to start 2013 with gold at this tournament to show the rest of the world that we are a force to be reckoned with.

Results:
AUS v NED 2-2
AUS v SA 1-1
AUS v ENG 4-1
Semi Final AUS v SA to be played Saturday at 3pm local time

About me

Making her debut in 2006 at the Champions Trophy tournament in the Netherlands Lynch has now become a regular feature in the Hockeyroos side. Lynch was the number one goalkeeper at both the 2010 World Cup and Commonwealth Games, performing extremely well at both tournaments. With the London Olympics under a year away Lynch will be looking to cement her spot in order to chase that dream of Olympic Gold.
